The Omani Cinema Society, in cooperation with the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic in the Sultanate of Oman and the Social Club of the Syrian Community, organized a cinematic event entitled “Syrian Nights Films”.

The event was attended by Dr. Idris Mia, Ambassador of the Syrian Arab Republic to the Sultanate of Oman, and Dr. Mohamed Ali Boughazi, Ambassador of Algeria to the Sultanate of Oman. The event will continue for two days at the headquarters of the Omani Cinema Society, with the screening of six films.

The cinematic nights included the screening of six short films that won international awards, directed by Al-Muhand Kalthoum. Yesterday, the documentary docudrama “Yasmine” was screened, a joint scenario between the director and Monem Al-Saidi, and deals with the reality of children affected by the war in Syria and its impact on their dreams and ideas.

The short narrative film “On the Roof of Damascus” was also screened, with a scenario by Samer Mohamed Ismail, which tells the story of a generation living their lives virtually and facing challenges in achieving that in reality, which was affected by the war. In addition, the short documentary docudrama “The Journey of Syrian Silk” was screened, which tells the stages of the traditional Syrian silk industry, and is considered an attempt to convey the Syrian cultural heritage and legacy to the world.

The first day included a dialogue session with the director, during which he talked about the stories of his films, the stages of their preparation, and their international participation, which will benefit other directors in developing the film industry in the Sultanate of Oman.

Today, three short films will be screened: the short narrative film “Photograph”, written by Buthaina Naeesa, which revolves around the effects of war on children in Syria; the short documentary docudrama “Spirit of the East”, which documents the intangible heritage in Syria; and the short narrative film “My River.. My Sea”, written by Samer Mohammed Ismail, which raises questions about the neglected and affected communities by the Syrian war.

The Omani Cinema Society aims, through the monthly cinema nights, to raise awareness of the seventh art as part of general culture, and to encourage people to enjoy cinema as a means of artistic expression. It also aims to screen films from different cultures and countries to promote cultural understanding and cooperation, spread culture and art, strengthen social ties, and encourage constructive dialogue.
