The Omani Film Society celebrates its 22nd anniversary through the “Cinema Nights” that it is holding at the Society’s headquarters during the period from June 23 to 26.
where 19 Omani short films that have won various international awards will be screened, including 11 documentaries and 8 feature films. These films varied between productions of the Omani Film Society and productions of other entities.
Yesterday, Sunday, the film “Sultana” by director Dr. Khalid Al-Zadjali was screened, the film “Alpha and Beta” by director Asim Al-Hashimi, the film “Bo” by director Youssef Al-Hosni, and the film “Long Distances” by directors Ali Al-Bimani and Hamad Al-Qassabi was screened.
As for Monday, the film “Ashes” by director Suleiman Al-Khalili will be screened, the film “Beta Carotene” by director Mohammed Al-Daroushi, the film “Child’s Cry” by director Saleh Al-Muqimi, and the film “You Will Not Dive Alone” by director Fahad Al-Maimani.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, the film “Blue Maybe” by director Mohammed Al Kindi, the film “Al Minyur” by director Mohammed Al Ajmi, the film “Al Darooj” by director Dr. Hamid Al Amri, the film “Paradise of Birds” by director Abdullah Al Raisi, and the film “The Missing Piece” by director Hussein Al Balushi are scheduled to be screened. The cinema nights will continue on Wednesday, with the screening of the film “Al Zij” by director Salah Al Hadrami, the film “The Religion of Water” by director Haitham Suleiman, the film “A Man from Jabal Qahwan” by director Mohammed Al Rasbi, and the film “Athar” by director Buthaina Al Kindi.
The cinema nights will witness the signing of the book “Omani Cinema Between Reality and Ambition” by Dr. Hamid bin Saeed Al Amri and Tunisian media figure Noura Badawi, and produced by the Omani Cinema Society. It includes critical readings of Omani cinema by a number of Arab critics, in addition to the ambitions that filmmakers in the Sultanate aspire to. The book represents an enrichment to the cinematic and critical library in the Sultanate, and is one of the first books that deal with criticism and reading of Omani cinematic works. The association is scheduled to launch during these nights the “Support and Production Fund” for the year 2024, which is concerned with supporting and financing the production of films for Omani filmmakers who are members of the association.
This is within the association’s interest in strengthening the cinematic movement and supporting it by producing new cinematic projects. The cinematic nights will also include the signing of a cooperation agreement between the association and Ahmed Al-Jahouri Law Firm and Legal Consultations. It is noteworthy that all screenings will be held at the headquarters of the Omani Cinema Association and will start at 7 pm, and are an offshoot of the cultural cinematic events that it organizes monthly.
A number of Arab and international films will be screened in its program on a monthly basis.
